I want to direct your attention to a thread on the BookAdvice forums. The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon started the thread. A guest had a question regarding translated books. Given that I’ve only read a few besides classics, I’m hoping others will participate in the conversation. Do you have recommendations for books translated into English? Do you know the name of a publisher who promotes translated books? Or an award? Are there books that you know are not good in their translated format? Please share.

The following website has educational books for younger children written in German and translated into English. There are more in the pipeline, one next month and another in March The text is presented in both the original German and the English translation side by side as an educational aid (the website is also written in the same style.

Thanks Ian. I know I’ll want to try it out, though I’ll need to learn a little of the language first. Know enough of French and Spanish to try, but so far not German. Always wanted to learn, but in the US there is less reason for learning German. Plus pronunciation is harder. So is French, but my son picked it to study. As his teacher, I am learning with him.
