Houghton Mifflin: NY, 1993. Newbery Award Winner 1994 This is an intense story about a society that designates one person to be the keeper of all feelings-so that everyone else can live pain-free. The giver(the man who holds the feelings for the community) is getting too old to continue. He has been trying for years to train a new giver, but it requires a rare person to live the life of a giver. Of all the children's literature that I have read, The Giver is still one of my favorites.
